Introduction
GeoTrace is a network tool which traces the internet route to the host device with visual geographical presentation of hops. GeoTrace is an essential tool for every IT professional or network engineer.
Using GeoTrace
- Enter the host address or IP address of the destination device then press the <Start Trace> button to begin the trace.
- The route is determined by sending a sequence of ICMP packets to the destination.
- After the route is determined, each hop is queried to determine hostname.
- Each hop is then sent packets to determine packet round trip time.
- Select the List tab to view trace details in a List View.
- Select the Graph tab to show the ping times graphically.
- Select the Map tab to geographically show the route of the trace on a map.
- Details on each hop can be determined by selecting the hop.
- In the hop details, selecting the hostname will provide WHOIS information.
- Selecting the IP address will provide IP address WHOIS information.
Trace History / Saved Trace
A history of the recent traces is automatically saved and accessable by accessing the bookmark icon. Any previous traces can be saved for further reference.
